S.JOÃO DO ESTORIL & ESTORIL
Surrounded by silence, you almost feel like you are in the country side.
However, nearby you have a Casino (about a 20 minute walk) which opens daily at 4 pm and is open until late into the night with shows, live music, restaurants, etc.
The Casino also has a beautiful garden where you can take a walk or just sit and read a book.
On the other side of the road there is the Train Station where you can catch a train to either Lisbon or Cascais, the last village on this coast. Beyond the station you are at the sea side. From São João do Estoril, our place, all the way to Cascais there is a wide beach walk promenade that is about 3 km long.
In olden times Cascais was a small fishing village, but it quickly became a high society refuge. Today you can find lots of attractions including a Marine, bars, hotels and shops.
The village has some architectonic particularities and it is still possible to find a section of the wall and one of the doors from the old city.
In the olden days all the coast line was protected by fortifications, of which many remain.
Between Cascais and Sintra there is a large Natural Park.
The village of Sintra is an ex-libris from the times of the Portuguese Royalty.
The charming village is full of palaces, scattered about in the the lush green forest on the mountain side.
This is full of historical monuments and is without a doubt a place to be visited.
This text contains a short explanation about the kind of things you can find in the neighborhood.
Guided tours Cascais - Center, Military Museum, “Gorge of the devil”, typical fishing houses & the Marina Sintra - Center, National Palace, mountain and the most westerly point of Europe Lisbon - Center, three typical areas, the Castle and the Belém Monuments.
